Lamborghini Enters the World of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

After a series of social media posts that hint at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally announced its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. The project is dubbed Space Key and developed in collaboration with an undisclosed artist It is made up of an advanced carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station for research purposes.

The Space Key is a collection of five physical items that unlocks an exclusive digital artwork by an unknown artist. Each Space Key contains a block comprised of the most advanced carbon-fire composite material. It was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research project. After returning to Earth it was engraved with an QR code that connects it to the digital component of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that happens seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Each of five images was shot by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner used a balloon equipped with a camera that captured each of the individual shots, which were later merged into the final image. The result is an out-of-this world image that captures the beauty of Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic look of the car rising from it.
