Our tester Claire was impressed by the neat packaging that was easy to open and found it to be one of the quickest and easiest pieces of baby equipment to put together. She tested it on some rough terrain and was amazed by its performance.

Seats

The majority of 3 wheel double buggies are designed as single pushchairs. However, some models can be modified to accept a second seat with adapters. You'll also see that some models will allow you to include a ride-onboard for older children who would like to walk but still need a little help.

For a lightweight alternative that's ideal for city streets, check out the Joie Evalite Duo. It's easy to move and comes with a deep basket with plenty of storage space. It can accommodate twins as young as birth and accommodate two car seats or an infant carrycot and seat. The seats have to face toward the forward direction and there isn't room to store bags of groceries under the seat. You will need an extra sidepack.

If you like to travel off-road, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a good choice. It's a side-byside model with the smallest footprint of any double buggy on the market. This makes it easier to squeeze through doors that are narrow and on public transport and also allows you to go up and down kerbs without much trouble. It also has a handbrake on the handlebar that can be adjusted for more security and safety.

Another option that is light weight is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double it can be used to accommodate twins or a baby and toddler. The seats can be reclining in multiple positions with UPF 50plus sunshades. The canopy can be adjusted to ensure that the sun does not touch your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can even be transformed into a triple by the addition of UPPAbaby's 'PiggyBack board for older and mobile children.

The iCandy Orange double buggy 3 wheels buggies are one of the most sought-after available. This is due to their outstanding comfort. It's an all-terrain pushchair with a soft suspension to make easy work of bumpy surfaces. It can be used in 30 seating configurations and includes an integrated ride-on board that can be used for older kids who prefer walking plus a 'cinema seating' mode that raises the back of the seat to improve visibility.

The phil&teds dots are fantastic single buggys that can be easily adapted to take two (or three wheel pushchair!) Multiple configurations are possible. This is particularly helpful if you have an infant in a car seat since the frame can be fitted with a wedgie for optimum position, and also car seat adapters for various brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a double 3 wheel pushchair off road-wheel buggy will determine the ease with which you and your child/children can push it. It is important to enjoy a smooth ride since babies feel every bump on the road. This is especially the case if you're driving on rough terrain like grass or roads that aren't paved. Some models also have front wheels that lock to assist with maneuvering and getting over obstacles such as curbs.

Some models use air-filled tyres that give you a great all-terrain ride, but can be prone to punctures, so ensure you have a spare set in the trunk. Others have foam or gel tyres that are designed to take the bumps and can be less susceptible to punctures, however, you might find them a little stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back when you choose to jog.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the Urban Glide 2 with her newborn and 3 wheeler pushchairs from birth-year-old and found it exceptionally adept on terrains that are difficult to traverse. "It glided effortlessly over grass and bumpy sidewalks cobbles, dirt tracks. It was also easy to maneuver around corners and get up and down kerbs." It's even very pleasant to jog, with the 16" rear wheels and lockable swivel front wheels giving you a stable running experience." Folding

A 3 wheel double buggy can fold up quite well to be stored. It comes with a huge undercarriage, a movable handlebar, and a soft suspension that gives you a comfortable ride.

It's a light compact and compact option that folds with just one hand. It's perfect to take on trips. It is compatible with many infant car seats and comes with a handy undercarriage basket to store shopping.
