How to Replace an audi key fob replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It's a bit tricky to test since there are various pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when it is in full operation. If you are having problems with this part, check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I placed a tissue over each injector hole, and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not certain what to do, but i feel i have pretty much eliminated everything else. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to know both the position and speed the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display the codes that could trigger the engine shutting down.

A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire in the gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is deteriorating and requires replacement audi car key. They're inexpensive and easy to locate especially if they're a Bosch model like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this unit is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous issues with your car. It is a crucial part of your Audi's transmission, because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the amount of fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. There should be the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these two points.
